The benefits of friendship are numerous and have a meaningful impact on someone’s life, especially for people with complex disabilities. A member of our Youth Patron Alumni, Rob, has been visiting Simon in his home and providing support and companionship which is eagerly anticipated.
Our Alumni Program builds on relationships students across All Saints' College WA, Methodist Ladies' College and Hale School forge throughout their time as Youth Patrons. They build on bonds made, engage with Nulsen, its residents and help us nurture every person’s potential for a good life.
Our Alumni are active members in the Nulsen community and we are grateful for their support and energy they bring with each and every visit. For more information visit https://www.nulsen.com.au/who-we-are/our-supporters-partners/nulsen-youth-patron-program/

Nothing beats a fabulous night of food and entertainment in the company of our Nulsen Youth Patrons at All Saints' College WA. Sladjana had a ball hanging out with the Year 10 students at the annual ‘Pasar Malam’ twilight markets.

The Creative Development garden, art stalls and sales from the Pemberton Fine Woodcraft Gallery, have been raising funds to support Nulsen residents to further their development in the arts, music and garden projects.
Retired employee Patti Ferber spends two days a week in the antique and collectibles space on the Pemberton property. She shop minds while spinning, knitting and dyeing beanies to sell. What a gorgeous way to spend retirement!. We are thankful and grateful for Owner Ros Piper for allowing Patti to donate the proceeds of Patti’s beanie sales to the Creative & Cultural Development Scholarship Fund.
When planning your next visit south, make sure you put the Pemberton Fine Woodcraft Gallery on your list of things to see and do!

Retirement offers the space to try new hobbies and experiences, however with Ron recently retiring from his gardening group, he is sure to continue pottering in his garden at home. Friends and fellow gardeners at Perth City Farm recently presented Ron with a hanging basket, a living memory of his 15 years with the group. Although Ron’s gardening gloves are not quite being hung up, he does hope to occasionally relax at home in between watering and keeping the weeds at bay 😊

The Australia Day long weekend was all about sun and surf for a group of Nulsen residents. It was the first time that Ben, Angela and Rob had been to a Disabled Surfers Association WA Perth event.
Everyone had a fabulous time. Ben walked down to the beach before going for a surf to test the water’s temperature, while Angela and Rob ran straight in with no fear.
Rob loved the cheering volunteers as he was kneeling on the board, while Angela loved being out in the sun and watching all the surfers. Ben loved surfing the waves and being in the water. Adam, Sebastiano, Myles, and David all got to show off their skills and show Ben, Rob and Angela how it was done. Rick and Neil enjoyed all the action as they watched from the shore.
It was a great time and a huge thanks to all the volunteers at Disabiled Surfers Association, all the Nulsen residents loved it!
The Disabled Surfers Association is run by volunteers who do an amazing job. The event runs for four months of the year and residents can come down and try surfing a few waves. Volunteers cheer the residents on while riding the board to shore, they have equipment which can support residents who are in wheelchairs and residents who are ambulant.
A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers who make this event happen!

The Leeuwin Ultimate Challenge, a five-day adventure specifically designed for young participants with sensory, intellectual or physical disability, has commenced!
The voyage runs from 31 January – 4 February 2018 and each of the 24 participants applied from September, including Nulsen resident Carlo.
Nulsen has committed to identifying and supporting a person from within our network each year for three years, who would benefit from participation on a voyage – a person who has shown a willingness and desire to try new things; a person who wants to continue to improve their skills; a person whose commitment to themselves and others can be rewarded by a great experience.
The Leeuwin has partnered with a number of disability services agencies over the next three years, including Nulsen.
We hope Carlo is having the experience of a lifetime and we look forward to hearing all about his high sea adventure on his return.

Steven is passionate about boats and fishing! It all began back in his teenage years in the waters off Lancelin where he and his family holidayed regularly. Steven's Dad taught him how to fish and he's loved it ever since! On his most recent expedition on the water with Support Worker Elsya and the team at Fishability he not only had a great catch, he also got to see the America's Cup memorabilia at the Royal Perth Yacht Club. What a fantastic day!

It is with mixed emotions that we accepted the final donation from the Nulsen Ladies Auxiliary today. Roy and Ruth Anderson presented the $10,500 cheque to CEO Gordon Trewern and Executive Director, Corporate Services, Graham Holman. Words cannot express the magnitude of our appreciation for the past 50 years of support, volunteering hours and the dear friendships made along the way. The legacy you have left will not be forgotten and we will continue to honour the tireless work of all our amazing volunteers.

Simba, the beloved pet of Nulsen residents Matthew, Andrew, Peter, Ashlee and Lara, turned six recently and he certainly had a birthday to remember! The pampered pooch was served 'doggy friendly' French toast for breakfast and given a many treats throughout the day. Everyone sang him Happy Birthday and showered him with cuddles and attention. Happy Birthday Simba!

There were plenty of views to admire on Krista's recent trip to Busselton. The sunshine and tranquil blue sea made the perfect day for a relaxed stroll along the jetty, a delicious lunch and long beach walks. There were plenty of photo stops before Krista headed home with so many memories of a beautiful trip.
