Helping a person with a disability and their family to have a break

Respite care makes it possible for a person with a complex disability and their family to take a break, whether that be a few hours out, or a weekend away.

Nulsen’s respite care is tailored to meet the needs of each person and their family. We can be very flexible in accommodating your way of doing things. We can come to you to provide respite care in your own home. Or we can support the person with a complex disability to attend a group or take part in social and recreational activities. Either way, both the person with a disability, and the primary carer, can enjoy a well-earned break.

We understand life has its challenges, twists and turns. It’s important to have trusted support so everyone has some time out. Respite care is an important part of living a healthy and balanced life.

To get the boys out in the community, experience life without having to hang around your family, and just to do fun things with people their own age. Join clubs, go to the gym and be independent of us.

Shared Management

Assistance for people who wish to organise and manage their funded disability supports

Shared Management is a way of organising and managing disability support in a way that is led by the person and/or their family in partnership with Nulsen Disability Services.

Whether your funding has been received through the Department of Communities or the National Disability Insurance Scheme, we can help you to achieve your goals. Shared management gives you more of a say in designing your disability support, but you don’t have to be responsible for all the tasks if this doesn’t suit you. You can pick and choose where you would like our assistance. Then we’ll enter into a formal agreement about who is responsible for each task.

For example, some people choose to manage their own disability support funding; or run their own team of disability support workers. In these cases, Nulsen can assist with processing disability support staff wages, superannuation, administering grant funding, and acquitting funds back to the funding body.

Under a shared management agreement Nulsen can help with:

  • Setting up and monitoring budgets.
  • Access to high-quality training for and supervision of direct care staff.
  • Providing backup disability support staff as required.
  • Arranging and paying for insurances such as public liability and workers compensation.
  • Managing payroll, wages, PAYG tax and superannuation.
  • Submitting documentation to the Australian Taxation Office.
  • Administering the grant funding, and
  • Acquitting the funds back to the funding body.
