Nulsen supports both children and adults with complex disabilities in a range of areas including accommodation, therapy services, nursing services, and positive behavior support. We are one of Western Australia’s leaders in the disability field and we have a job for a dedicated Positive Behavior Support Practitioner.
The Positive Behavior Support Practitioner is responsible for implementing evidence based high quality positive behaviour support and intervention services to Nulsen services users as part of our comprehensive individualised support model. The role involves partnering with health services staff, support staff and families to ensure effective implementation of Nulsen’s positive behaviour support framework to enhance the quality of life of people with a disability and their families. The officer contributes broad professional skills and knowledge in the area of positive behaviour support, along with discipline specific expertise to encourage positive outcomes for individuals and families.
Some of your duties will include:
- Works collaboratively with Nulsen support and therapy staff to develop environments that support each individual to achieve a quality of life that reflects and enhances their choice and control.
- Utilises expertise to engage with support staff and caregivers to develop a shared understanding of the reasons for behaviours of concern.
- Uses a range of approaches, resources, tools and assessments to provide expert opinion and be responsive to unique situations in order to inform problem solving and creative solutions to address individual needs.
- Partners with staff to provide support to residents and service users using a positive behaviour support approach to all aspects of service delivery, including providing training and coaching where appropriate.
- Provides targeted individual positive behaviour support that complements organisational PBS approaches, in partnership with key Nulsen staff, families and other stakeholders.
What you’ll need:
- Tertiary qualification in psychology, and registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency as a psychologist, ( provisionally registered psychologists are encouraged to apply).
- An Australian driver’s licence, Working with Children Card, First Aid Certificate (with 6 months’ validity) and a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (only through Nulsen’s preferred provider).
- Extensive knowledge and experience working with people who have a reputation for behaviours that challenge providers, carers and the community.
- Excellent understanding of the principles and evidence based practice regarding the delivery of positive behaviour support approaches within diverse environments, including home and community.
- Experience in developing and delivering positive behaviour support training and education to non-clinical staff, service providers and families.
- Ability to work within a transdisciplinary model whilst managing and prioritising own workload to meet organisational deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to develop good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including residents, families and medical providers.
- Demonstrated experience in complex problem solving, and the ability to think innovatively.
- Awareness and understanding of the National Standards for Disability Services and an in depth understanding of the rights, needs and requirements of people with a disability from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to person centred approaches and contemporary principles of service delivery within a context of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
