We have a job for a dedicated Positive Behavior Support Practitioner who will be responsible for implementing evidence based, high quality, positive behaviour support and intervention services to Nulsen’s services users as part of our comprehensive individualised support model.

The role involves partnering with therapy team members, support staff and families to ensure effective implementation of Nulsen’s positive behaviour support framework to enhance the quality of life of people with a disability and their families.

The officer contributes broad professional skills and knowledge in the area of positive behaviour support, along with discipline specific expertise to encourage positive outcomes for individuals and families.

Some of your duties will include

  • Working collaboratively with the team to develop environments that support each individual to achieve a quality of life that reflects and enhances their choice and control.
  • Utilising expertise to engage with support staff and caregivers to develop a shared understanding of the reasons for behaviours of concern.
  • Utilising a range of approaches, resources, tools and assessments to provide expert opinion and be responsive to unique situations in order to inform problem solving and creative solutions to address individual needs.
  • Partnering with staff to provide support to residents and service users using a positive behaviour support approach to all aspects of service delivery, including providing training and coaching where appropriate.
  • Providing targeted individual positive behaviour support that complements organisational PBS approaches, in partnership with key staff, families and other stakeholders.

What you’ll need;

  • Tertiary qualification in psychology, occupational therapy, speech pathology or social work and;
    1. General registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Psychologist (minimum) , or
    2. Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Occupational Therapist,
    3. Practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia, or
    4. Practising membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or the Society of Professional Social Workers.
  • Proficient, advanced or specialist level skills as a PBS practitioner as defined by the National Quality and Safeguarding Commission.
  • An Australian driver’s licence, Working with Children Card, First Aid Certificate and a National Police Clearance (less than 3 months old).
  • Knowledge and experience working with people who have a reputation for behaviours that challenge providers, carers and the community.
  • Experience in developing and delivering positive behaviour support training and education to non-clinical staff, service providers and families.
  • Ability to work within a transdisciplinary model whilst managing and prioritising own workload to meet organisational deadlines.
  • Demonstrated commitment to person centred approaches and contemporary principles of service delivery within a context of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
